South Park: Phone Destroyer

This is a bit of a plug and play review, its an easy game to review and its a bit ironic to I thought I'd quickly get it out there.

So, the game we are obviously talking about today is South Park's Phone Destroyer. Which I'm honestly a bit surprised was even made.

The game itself is a deck building games with multiple themes for you to collect cards from and them compose your deck out of. There is a narrative story in the game that you do follow as you progress and actually some hilarious callbacks to the show and new content made from the game. I personally enjoyed getting calls from Cartman, although it wouldn't let me reject the calls.

Phone Destroyer in my opinion is a pretty solid freemium game. More so that so many other freemium games. However, that doesn't mean it is that good of a game. Its mechanics are solid, but the game is pretty shallow due to both its limited card collection and all the trapping of being a freemium game. There are timers to stop your progress and rewards, there are multiple in game currencies to confuse your ability to value them correctly and of course there are microtrasnations that could literally cost you hundreds of dollars. Give what EA is going through right now I feel this game got away under the rader to be honest, not become it is any more exploitative, but due to the fact that South Park had literally made an entire episode about these kind of mechanics being empirically evil and a few years down the line simply turn around and make a game using the same exploitation techniques. Shame! Shame! SHAME TREY PARKER & MATT STONE!

I feel this game is just trying to capitalize on the market that Blizzard's Hearthstone has opened up, and if you really are looking for a deck building game then you get that. Its a far deeper game and despite being free to play is nowhere near as exploitative as this.
