This game is going to be super easy to review thanks not only to the fact that I loved the normal Don't Starve experience when its single player and the fact that game is pretty much the same I can just copy and past the last review and be done with it.
As the game is more an expansion to Don't Starve as opposed to a standalone game it was obviously developed and published by the same team at Klei Entertainment. The game has become dramatically more available since my last review of the base game from a few years ago and is not available on not only the PC regardless of operating system but is also avilable on both current and past Sony devices as well as the Wii U and iOS mobile devices. The game's price has gone up from fifteen dollars to twenty dollars with this feature though.
For the sake of breveity you can find the review for the basic Don't Starve experience here as the sound design, the graphics and mechanics of the game as a whole have not changed. I will only mention the new features specific to Don't Starve Together.
The mechanics of the game haven't changed much since its release which ensures that Don't Starve Togeher is just as brutal when it comes to trail and error as the normal Don't Starve experience. Seeing as I am playing it with +Ahmed Jadaa one would think he would take advantage of my experience playing the game to make his own life easier and my life easier, but no. Instead he chooses to hit me with an axe three times when I tell him to please cut down that tree.
Mod support is both a blessing and curse so far in the game, while it was there in the first game I didn't review it as it wasn't there when I wrote the review for the base game. I personally suggest picking the mods at your own descresion as I've restricted myself to only getting those that improve the HUD in the game as I want to keep the experience just as harsh as it is in the base game. You could add a ton more characters to the game to make the game even more engaing for yourself like for example maybe playing as Courage the Cowardly Dog. With Don't Starve Together there is a bit of increased risk with the mods in that they could cause your game to crash which isn't something I experienced with the single player game. But hopefully most of that should get sorted out through modder and developer cooperation over the next few weeks.
I'm still worried about adding strangers to my game as I can't help but run around messing someone's world when I jump into it and I can't just imagine what would happen if I let someone into mine. Playing with real friends has been very fun though, granted the baby sitting can be tiresome for both involved parties, as it makes the game slightly easier or at least I feel it does when you keep it around the two to three player limit. Once you go above that number I feel that need to feed the entire group really starts to work against you, but you can always solve that problem with some axes to the faces of the less useful members in the group.
Don't Starve Together is amazing, granted it should have been a feature that was already in the base game but I won't make to much of a fuss since the developers have given it for free to everyone who owned Don't Strave like myself. The game is just an punishing at the normal game and whole experience is just as fun if not more fun when playing with friends. I look forward to baby sitting anyone who chooses to join me in the game, and I hope you look forward to getting yelled by me when you DON'T FUCKING STOP EATING RAW MONSTER MEAT!
