Pid isn't a game I would have bought for myself or even put on my wishlist on any platform. But I saw that it was being given away for free so I just snatched that shit up.
Jokes aside, I didn't really find anything else to like in the game aside from its graphics. While its platforming had a feature I haven't seen in 2D platforms before, in that you can place beams that either push or pull you once you get in them, as a concept this isn't unique and its been seen and done before with the most prominent example that comes to my mind being Portal 2. Beyond that the gameplay is unremarkable and is pretty normal platforming stuff, you have a few weapons to kill specific enemies and some stuff to protect you. The story is also equally unremarkable, its something about a royal over throw but its not really the important part, its not like Nintendo's Mario lore is really that important to the actual game. The sound design probably did make it a bit worse since they just used wonks and squeaks to do character voices and it was pretty annoying after a while.
Pid might be a game that you would enjoy if you are really into platformers as I thought it was pretty solid in that regard and on top of that it is really well drawn and looks unique and beautiful to me. But, I can't recommend it since I found the experience rather boring and the only reason I finished it was the fact that I just wanted to beat the game and get a few more achievements and not have it count against me in my game completion percentage.
The game is a puzzle-platformer that was developed by Might and Delight and published by D3 Publisher, two companies that I have never heard of prior to writing this review. The game is available on the PS3 and Xbox 360, but if you want to play it on something relevant you can give it a go on your PC. I played it through steam on my PC.
Lets start with the good. The game has a really unique art style that I enjoyed a lot. The entire world is composed using colorful solids shapes and blocks to bring it to life and it was a joy to behold. After a while it does get boring, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the art style took a lot of work and looks extremely well done. Going on to the second thing I liked about the game, well it was short and I didn't have to put up with it for to long.
