Welcome back to another review and finally after a long session involving JRPGs and Persona 5 we can get back and see what else is new. Luckily, I forgot about this hidden gem and all episodes came out while I was distracted with Persona 5. The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, not to be confused with A third season of the original telltale series takes a look at completely new characters and continues Clementine's story.
What I thought was the most interesting part of this expansion was the difference in narrative. The story takes place in a family's house where we get to know more about all the characters we are newly introduced to for a few episodes. The narrative starts with our protagonist, Javier who is involved in a love triangle with his brother and his brother's wife. Shortly after, we see how they have their own experience in the zombie apocalypse.
Given that I have ended the second season with a huge cliffhanger, I thought we'd continue right where Clementine ended up but I was taken aback more by a whole set of characters and a new protagonist, Javier where the narrative follows him specifically. True, you get to choose the major choices from the previous seasons or you can import a save but the way I saw it was that it didn't greatly affect clementine's performance in this season. However, your actions in A New Frontier will most likely affect the third season of the game. It's nice to see a different perspective and see Clementine as a side character especially the subject matter of A New Frontier, Family.
The decisions I picked here were not only touchy to me but I felt were very personal since the subject of family is something we all relate to whether its on a deep or superficial level. Every character teaches clementine something and since she is still growing up, I'd imagine it would affect her personality in the third season.
It's good to take a step back and realize that it has been a really long time or maybe forever since Telltale upgraded their engine. We've played all Walking Dead seasons, Wolf Among Us and Game of Thrones only to realize maybe these graphics are getting a bit too old. Last but not least, I feel a lot of the fans were disappointed at the fact that Clementine was not the protagonist here but in fact I do see it as positive because of the strong cast, and it works really well. There is not much to add here but more spoilers but enjoy the ride until the third season comes out. Find The Walking Dead: A New Frontier on PSN and Steam. See you on my next review!
