Welcome to another review by yours truly and I am glad this is my first review on the LPQ (Low Priority Queue) hub! The only difference now is that we can review more than just video games but I'll stick to games for now since it is what I am craving for the most these days. While I am savoring every minute of Persona 5 these days, I've been playing a quite addictive and frustratingly good game by the name of Tomb of The Mask. When it comes to mobile games, I'll either pick a quick to get into arcade kind of game or an adventure game that I like to lose myself in for a while, and the latter is hard to come by in mobile games, so I'll jump right into explaining what our game today is about.
At first glance, this might seem like a pac-man clone but what I like about it is it has incorporated the mechanic of collecting coins as points and added an acrade element to it of progression. Basically it has two modes: Arcade and puzzle mode where in Puzzle mode, you get to resolve every stage, overcoming its obstacles and gaining the standardized 3 stars rating known in contemporary mobile games. The more points you collect, the more stars and the game encourages you to attempt to finish every stage by collecting all of them through randomized challenges. It's not a very complex game at all. However, it needs a worthy mention simply because it fills me with adrenaline and solely depends on reflexes and I haven't felt that excited in a while about a simplistic game like this in a while.
You can unlock more characters to play with, each having their own buffs where some get more points than others, and some are faster than others. Obstacles often get tricky and require timing especially when you're frantically being chased by force wave of death that is slowly approaching you and having lasers being shot at you from 3 directions, its pretty stressful. The good kind. Of course, there is also the pay to win approach in every mobile game but I find that ridiculous and takes the fun out of the game. Of course, here in Tomb of The mask, the only thing you'd be buying is one extra life, and then you'd have to retry the level, unless its in Arcade mode, then I'd rather watch a 30 second ad for free.
There is also a complimentary turn of a wheel of fortune every time you start the game for free, then there would be a timer for it to be free again, but afterwards you'd have to spend 200 coins if you want to spend it again. You can also double up the points by watching an ad. There are also powerups your character can have such as shields in case you get hit by an obstacle like spikes or you can pick up coin magnets so on and so forth. Recently, the wheel has been updated with a question mark tab and I think if you get that, you either get a random number of coins or you get a costume. There isn't much to add to this simple yet extremely intense arcade game. Sometimes I enjoy a quick and dirty experience to keep me going through my day. You can check Tomb of The Mask on the app store and the Google play store. I've been Ahmed Jadaa, see you on my next review.
