Hitman

We're back with another stealth game review, only this time it is actually a game I picked up recently instead of scouring for something I played a decade ago to fill up the void I felt from actually playing a game. That was too much info. Hitman is apparently rebooted, yes fans got really angry from the decisions in all aspects ranging from the character design decisions along with the gameplay of the new game catered to being played online all the time. I was keeping an open mind and my open mind tends to be against me most of the time when I am expressing my favorite games out of the series, where the more streamlined the game is and the easier the controls were, the more I enjoy these games and to me it was mostly like that from Absolution, the most hated game in the series and I feel its a bit unfair.

Reboot or no, I was sure I was going to have a solid experience from Agent 47. The only annoying thing about the whole experience was the episodic experience which is becoming a trend nowadays and I cant for the life of me explain to you how frustrating it is when I play a good session only to have to wait for another month or so for a new episode. Luckily for me, I started the game when 2 episodes were left but I still had to take my time going through each episode.

Entering the world of assassinations, I was immediately caught off guard by how spectacular the levels were in size and complexity. I immediately knew every level had to be played at least twice to experience it fully, aside from challenges and hidden opportunities it contained. This game not only made the assassinations interesting, but it made me yearn for more and for the first time made me feel how essential replayability can be as a part of a game. Not only that, but this game especially made me like how fashionable a kill 47 can pull off instead of a straight shot behind the target and running out of the level onto the next one. Every level was designed in a way to be unique and difficult on its own. There was a level that reminded me of the four nuns I had to assassinate from Absolution, only it was done way better than the Absolution level, where in my experience I eventually went guns blazing and killed a lot of guards by making a lot of noise. That's what I like about the reboot, its not only rewarding to be stealthy but its also enjoyable to be stealthy.

Obviously combat is also an option in this game but I haven't attempted that to know its nature. However, I do know there is a huge arsenal of weapons to experience the game in a different mindset rather than stealth. But think about it, there isnt any more satisfying experience than disguising yourself as a bodyguard to your target, only to place a bomb under his desk and blowing him up while he is engaging in a conversation. Accident kills are the most hilarious and I wont go into details to save you the spoilers, but there is a lot of variety in this reboot despite a lot of mechanics being removed from here. For example, the insight mechanic is only there to show you the target's location and it shows you the interactive objects around you. It is also infinite, meaning you can turn it on anytime and have a few seconds of slow motion to think about your next step.

After talking about how lengthy and replayable a level is, I just realized that all this was only from the story levels and I haven't even scratched the surface on escalation missions where you cannot save in their respective levels as well as having to replay it over and over and it would change objectives for you and you have to adapt. Let's not forget contract mode where it is the sole purpose of this game being played online all the time.

All in all, this Hitman reboot is a great addition to my collection of stealth games. The game ended with season one and it implied that we barely scratched the surface of the story, where the next game will have interesting turn of events exploring Agent 47's origin story. It did not disappoint and it was a lot of fun despite it being very different in mechanics to its previous games. As frustrated I am to buy a whole other game's price when Season 2 comes out, I am as excited as I am frustrated. You'll find Hitman on consoles and PC available for your to check out.
