Evoland

Since I am not in the mood to continue reviewing Final Fantasy games and I haven't been beating a good amount of games this year due to several reasons, I thought I should review this simple RPG tribute to RPGs, Evoland. Developed by French video game development company based in Bordeaux, Evoland is influenced by notable RPGs like Zelda, Diablo and Final Fantasy.

It starts off in pixels and progressively evolves into a JRPG with as much of a ridiculous plot as any typical one and annoying random battles that forced me to run from a few of them. The only downside to Evoland is that there wasn't much room for variety as well as it stopping its evolving after a few times and the first hour hasn't even passed. Not to mention the fact that I was amused by the idea of a game evolving from one game to another over the course of a few minutes until I realized how terrible of a concept it really is for a three to five hour game.

That awkward moment when you were a pixel 2 minutes ago and now you have a buster sword

The game was very limited in terms of choices, and so I struggled endlessly in a bunch of dungeons where the mechanics were like a diablo game and the controls were not that responsive, not to mention the final boss being annoying as hell with only 6 HP after leveling up quite a bunch of times. Really, the mechanics and the concept was all over the place and several objects were scattered for collection and I wasn't even sure why.

All in all, I was not sure why I would even pick a game to review that I wasn't happy with altogether, but there is a first time for everything and when I can recall I beat better games recently, I'll be sure to mention them other than a terrible concept of an RPG or let's just call it a tribute or a parody. Evoland is available on smartphones and Steam, get it if you want. Kay bye.
