Final Fantasy VI

Another day and another review of our favorite RPG series. No, I still have not touched a game since my last review and I've been delving into other mediums like comics and movies. Which is why I still feel stuck in good times with my gaming. Speaking of good times, Final Fantasy VI was a great surprise to my experience and redefined the whole genre as well as my gaming experience altogether. It had spectacular moments and unforgettable tracks that really makes it the underdog among what came after it. In our review we can appreciate what made it huge and forget what square enix did with its very recent port that made it look worse than an RPGMaker game.

Final Fantasy VI is known well for its huge cast as well as its epic story. I can easily recall how I was astonished how I had to pick a party out of a 20 character roster or more. The game is played like any other previous installment. Having an overworld map and exploring towns and dungeons with random encounters. The only difference here is the story progression is amazing where it throws you right in the brink of things happening where you start as something completely insignificant and eventually you become part of something big without mentioning any spoilers. My writing may be a little off today but I hope the idea comes across as Medieval times with ancient technology as Star Wars is depicted. Who am I kidding, it is practically star wars only proper nouns have been replaced.

At the time, especially after beating Final Fantasy V, it was a relief seeing Final Fantasy VI with its huge roster of characters each with their own "jobs" and special skills because said jobs can have character and identity instead of having freelancers that can be whichever job they can be. I feel more comfortable knowing that I can just switch out party members based on their jobs. Combat here is not any different than previous entries although I recall it being extremely tough. Make no mistake, I may have said Final Fantasy II was the toughest or even IV but VI comes easily as a difficult game on its own with its annoying puzzles in the dungeons where I recall I had to use a guide halfway through the game. I had considered myself for a while beaten by it because of its annoying and seemingly impossible final dungeon.

Highly regarded as one of the best video games of all time and a top RPG in everyone's book, Final Fantasy VI puts us in the characters' shoes for a good amount of 80 hours or so where when all your characters are hanging out in dialogue, you really look back and feel the depth of those pixellated figures and how well written and involving they really are. Final Fantasy VI can be found on most platforms nowadays and I promise you it is far more entertaining than my review will ever be.
